Treatment
There has been no single thewrapy for bulimia nervosa.
Pharmacological
Some researchers believe that bulimia has a relationship to mood disorders. Therefore, clinical trials have been conducted with tricyclic antidepressants, MAO inhibitors, mianserin, fluoxetine, lithium carbonate, nomifensine, trazodone, and bupropion.
Bulimia has also been treated with phenytoin, carbamazepine, and valproic acid by those groups of researchers who believe the disorder has a relationship to seizure disorders.
Bulimia nervosa is also considered an addiction disorder, and thereby it may be treated with limited clinical use of topiramate, which blocks cravings for opiates, cocaine, alcohol and food.
Psychotherapy
There are several empirically-supported psychosocial treatments for bulimia nervosa. Cognitive behavioral therapy, which involves teaching clients to challenge automatic thoughts and engage in behavioral experiments
